The following applies to all dogs and cats scheduled for both surgery and dentals:
Please use a leash or suitable carrier for your pet when visiting our facility. This is for the protection of your pet, yourself and the staff. Please remember that although we do our best to minimize the stress your animal may feel while visiting the hospital, it is still a stress filled environment. Pets who may otherwise be very well behaved can react unpredictably in a stressful situation.
The day before any procedure please feed your pet a light meal. Take away food by 3:00pm. If your dog is over 30 lbs, please take away water by 9:00 pm the night before. For smaller pets, including cats, water is
permitted during the night, but should be taken away first thing in the morning. Please take your dog for long walk the morning of the procedure prior to dropping off to ensure that they are "empty".
This is very important.
All animals must be brought into the hospital the morning of the scheduled surgery and/or dental between 8:00am and 10:00am. This allows the staff to prep our patients for their procedures. Preparations vary according to the type of procedure scheduled. Expect that all surgeries will be shaved at or around the surgical site. Animals are also shaved on one or more legs allowing placement of IV catheters. Animals brought into the hospital for abdominal ultrasounds will be shaved in the entire abdominal area and also about halfway up their sides.
Upon admission, you will be asked to read and sign a release form for the procedure, including any anesthesia that will be used. Pre-anesthesia blood work is mandatory for all procedures involving anesthesia. It is a good indication of the health of your pet and lessens the risk of complications.
We will call you after 3:30 the day of the procedure and give you a status report on your pet. If your pet is staying overnight, we ask that you pick up after 10:30 the following morning. At that time you will be given discharge instructions and told when to come back for suture removal.
